What the numbers mean

Anyone can buy a truck. These numbers are how you tell a licensed mover from someone who isn’t.

USDOT number. Issued by the U.S. Department of Transportation to commercial carriers. It ties the company to its safety record, inspections and insurance filings, all public on FMCSA’s SAFER site.

MC number. Operating authority from FMCSA. To move household goods across state lines, a mover needs authority specifically for household goods. Ours includes it.

Before you hire any mover for an interstate move, look up both numbers and make sure the name and address match the company you’re talking to.
